MPs extend condolences over para-cyclist’s loss

TEHRAN, Sep. 20 (MNA) – A host of Iranian Members of Parliament issued different messages offering condolences over the tragic loss of Iranian paralympian in Rio 2016.

Iranian MPs in separate messages and interviews extended their deepest condolences and most sincere sympathies over the tragic death of Iranian cyclist at an accident during the Paralympics Games of Rio on Saturday.

The 48 year old Iranian Para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who passed away following a crash during the men's C4-5 road race at the Rio Paralympics, was a veteran of Iran-Saddam war of 1980-88 and father of a son. He had lost his left leg on a land mine in 1988.  

Along with tribute paid by officials and teammates, Iran men's national sitting volleyball team dedicated their gold win at 2016 Summer Paralympics to the memory of the late Paralympian.

Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament along with MP Mohammad Reza Tabesh the Chairman of Sport Fraction, MP Seyyed Farid Mousavi, and MP Gholamreza Kateb were among the MPs who mourned over the event.

After the demise of the Iranian athlete, the Iranian flag and the Paralympic flag were lowered to half-mast in the athletes’ village. The Paralympic flag was also flown at half-mast at the Riocentro venue, where Iran played Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday in the sitting volleyball gold-medal match. A period of silence was also held during Sunday night’s closing ceremony.
